VGCA  February Newsletter

Monthly Meeting

This month’s meeting will be Feb 26th at the NRA Hdqt. at 8 PM. A light dinner will be provided as usual. Food is generally in place by 7:15 so come early.

Program

We will have a swap meet this month so bring out all your junk that you don’t want to carry to Hugo’s next month. We will try to have a brief business meeting since we need to firm up a few things for the show. In addition to the swap meet, we will probably have Charles Pate there who wrote new book on WW 2 handguns. It will be interesting to see what he has to tell us about his research etc. March will be, of course, the show. In April, Mo will present Harpers Ferry arms--don't miss it.

Election of Board of Directors for the next two years.

Jim Burgess, Larry Hunt, Mike Vargosco have agreed to serve and have been duly elected. Their telephone numbers are listed in the heading. Thanks to all of you who agreed to take on this totally thankless job. Mike will eventually take over the newsletter. Larry is handling the web page. Jim is, as usual, the kingpin of show table organization. Please assist these fine people in any way you can. I think I failed to mention that Col. Jim Sullivan assisted greatly in the selection of the new Board members for the vote. I sometimes fail to mention such things. We thank Jim for his most kind assistance in this most important duty.

Voting on New Members

Please welcome Byron Black as a new member. Byron was voted in last month. This month we need to vote on two applications: Jean Hart and Bill Eagen. Hopefully they will be at the meeting so you can meet them.

Archie Mayer

Archie’s contributions to the club need no explanation. Archie was approved at last month’s meeting as our first Board of Director Emeritus . We all owe a lot of thanks to Archie for a job more than well done for his help from 1983 to the present.

Carlos

As Carlos is suffering serious medical problems now, the membership voted to send a check for $1000.00 to him to help him with expenses. Please say a prayer or two for this truly American hero.

Future shows

We are going to have the Sept 98 show at Hugo’s.. Beyond that, we are not sure. So please keep your eye out for possible show locations. Contact any EXCOM member if you discover any potential site.

Show Security

Attached to the flyer is a duty roster for manning the front door to check the incoming patrons’ firearms. We do not want a loaded arm in the show. If you sign up, please show up. Include your daytime phone number. We will contact you and confirm your assignment. This is an important duty and we appreciate your help!! Keep in mind that Gary Holderman will need help in monitoring the show so if you can help with the show committee, please let Gary know. Gary will have the camera at the show for all of those who need ID badges. Gary has year stickers for your badges.

Business Cards on the Internet

Larry will scan your card in color into the web page. Please bring any business cards you want included in the VGCA web page to the meeting. He needs original business cards that are clear in the printing.

Hope to see you at the swap meet. Addison Hurst, Secy.
